V hlubinách jeskyně, kde první lidé kdysi objevili ohněm prosvětlenou tmu, se narodila touha po spojení, po rituálu, po umění, po sebevyjádření se, po svobodě. Bubny duněly, ohně tancovaly na pomalovaných stěnách a mysl byla ohýbána pod vlivem přírodních látek. Tento archetypální moment, kdy se člověk oddával kolektivní extázi, se nyní znovuzrodil v podobě moderního rave. Prostoru, který nám dává až terapeutickou možnost odpojit se nejen od problémů okolního světa, ale také od vlastní osobnosti a být zajedno s ostatními, zahaleni kouřem a vlnící se v až sakrálním dunění. Světelné instalace dnešních rave party jsou dědici oněch pradávných ohňů a DJs spolu se světelnými tvůrci pak našimi současnými šamany a druidy, kněžími, kteří nás provádějí nocí plnou elektronických rytmů, bubnů pro náš věk. 


Skupinová výstava ELEKTROSALON s podtitulem From the Rave to the Gallery představuje umělce, kteří se vyvíjeli v tomto fascinujícím prostředí. Začínali jako visual makers nebo osvětlovači na rave a klubové scéně, kde měli možnost experimentovat, dělat chyby a růst. Růst v originální osobnosti nejen se specifickým charakterem, ale také svým vlastním vizuálním podpisem. Tito umělci, kteří se mezi sebou většinou znají a již spolu spolupracovali, tvoří specifickou scénu light designérů. Společně definují jeden umělecký směr, ve kterém jsou si navzájem inspirací i soupeři. 


Rave je více než jen taneční večírek; je to gesamtkunstwerk, celistvé umělecké dílo, kde se spojuje prostor, zvuk a vizuál. A právě vizuální umělci svými světelnými instalacemi do velké míry definují atmosféru večírku. Staví moderní oltáře, kolem nichž se koná skupinový rituál. Rituál rozpouštějící ego s důrazem na již zmíněný a důležitý společný prožitek energie. 


V galerijním prostoru se tito vizuální tvůrci setkávají poprvé mimo klubové prostředí. Někteří z nich představují své současné myšlenky a tvorbu, zatímco jiní se ohlížejí nazpět a aktualizují své dříve realizované projekty. Název výstavy ELEKTROSALON odkazuje na formát salonních výstav, populární na přelomu minulého století, a nabízí divákům možnost hledat společné rysy a propojení mezi jednotlivými autory.

In the depths of the cave, where the first humans once discovered the fire-lit darkness, a desire for connection, for ritual, for art, for self-expression, for freedom was born. Drums rumbled, fires danced on painted walls, and minds were bent by natural substances. This archetypal moment of indulging in collective ecstasy has now been reborn in the form of the modern rave. A space that gives us an almost therapeutic opportunity to disconnect not only from the problems of the outside world, but also from our own personalities and be at one with others, shrouded in smoke and undulating in an almost sacred rumble. The light installations of today's rave parties are heirs to those ancient fires, and DJs along with light makers are then our contemporary shamans and druids, priests who guide us through a night of electronic beats - drums for our age.


The group exhibition ELEKTROSALON, subtitled From the Rave to the Gallery, presents artists who have evolved in this fascinating environment. They started as visual makers or lighting designers in the rave and club scene, where they had the opportunity to experiment, make mistakes and grow. Growing into original personalities with not only a specific character, but also their own visual signature. These artists, who mostly know each other and have worked together before, form a specific scene of light designers. Together they define an artistic direction in which they are both inspiration and rivals.


A rave is more than just a dance party; it is a gesamtkunstwerk, a complete work of art where space, sound and visuals come together. And it is the visual artists who largely define the party atmosphere with their light installations. They build modern altars around which a group ritual takes place. A ritual that dissolves the ego with an emphasis on the aforementioned and important shared experience of energy.


In the gallery space, these visual artists meet for the first time outside of a club setting. Some of them present their current ideas and work, while others look back and update their previously realized projects. The title of the exhibition, ELEKTROSALON, refers to the format of salon exhibitions popular at the turn of the last century, and offers viewers the opportunity to look for commonalities and connections between the artists.

Zkratku TBA, tedy To Be Announced, použivali a používají různé kolektivy v rave subkultuře také ve spojení s "Location TBA", aby vytvořili v návštěvnících napětí, zvědavost a navázali tak či podtrhli (nyní již spíše pseudo) nelegálnost svých eventů. Mnohokrát však byla tato finta využita i z jiného důvodu - samu lokaci bylo složité a obtížné domluvit, a proto do poslední chvíle nebylo mnohokrát vůbec jasné, kde a jestli vůbec se rave uskuteční. Artist TBA odkazuje k tomuto trendu, prvopočátkům nelegálních rave parties, kde šlo spíše o lákadlo samotného kolektivního prožitku, než klasický koncertový line-up, celého kultu anonymity a skryté identity této subkultuře vlastních aspektů. Zde je tak využit ke komunikaci a postupnému odhalení několika různých instalací od umělců, umělkyň a kolektivů tohoto mysteriózního světa.

The abbreviation TBA, To Be Announced, has been used and is used by various collectives in the rave subculture also in conjunction with "Location TBA" to create tension and curiosity in the visitors and to establish or underline the (now rather pseudo) illegality of their events. However, many times this ploy was used for another reason - the location itself was complicated and difficult to arrange, and therefore many times it was not clear until the last moment where and even if the rave would take place. Artist TBA refers to this trend, to the early days of illegal rave parties, where it was more about the lure of the collective experience itself than the classic concert line-up, the whole cult of anonymity and the hidden identity aspects inherent in this subculture. Here it is thus used to communicate and gradually reveal several different installations by artists, performers and collectives of this mysterious world.

Architekti, sochaři a umělci, obdaření neobyčejnou zručností, přistupují ke svému dílu s lehkostí, která překračuje hranice samotného bytí. Nejenže stáli u kolébky letní školy Maříž, ale byli i klíčovými tvůrci prvních vizuálních prvků Harmony rec.. V tajemných hlubinách lesa, kam chodili pro inspiraci na houby, objevili dřevo, které se stalo středobodem jejich experimentů a nosným pilířem instalací, které vytvořili. Z hibernačního spánku se na scénu opět vracejí a pro tuto výstavu připravují speciální zážitek, kde se zaměří na práci s červeným světlem. Ačkoliv je toto světlo obvykle spojeno s klubovým prostředím, zde bude použito ve své sluneční formě, což umožní jeho transformaci do ozdravného procesu pro diváka. Tímto způsobem kolektiv GoJo hledá nové možnosti vyjádření a propojuje uměleckou tvorbu s léčivými aspekty světla.

Architects, sculptors and artists, endowed with extraordinary skill, approach their work with an ease that transcends the boundaries of existence itself. Not only were they at the cradle of the Maříž Summer School, but they were also key creators of the first visual elements of Harmony. In the mysterious depths of the forest, where they would go for inspiration to forage for mushrooms, they discovered wood, which became the centerpiece of their experiments and the supporting pillar of the installations they created. They are returning to the scene from hibernation and are preparing a special experience for this exhibition, where they will focus on working with red light. Although this light is usually associated with club environments, here it will be used in its solar form, allowing it to be transformed into a healing process for the viewer. In this way, the GoJo collective seeks new possibilities of expression and connects artistic creation with the healing aspects of light.

Co byla vaše oblíbená či nezapomenutelná akce?

Pro nás byla asi nejcennější jedna z naších prvních akcí Harmony w/ Yan Cook (2015). Byla to vlastně první akce, kterou jsme dali dohromady v našem plném složení (Honza, Nico, Michal a Adam). Po tomhle zážitku jsme u podobných akcí zústali dalších 5 let. Důležitou roli v tom hrála spolupráce s někdejším XYZ project, který nás zasvětil do práce se světlem, a se kterým jsme dělali řadu nadcházejících akcí. 

What was your favorite or unforgettable event?

Probably one of our first events, Harmony w/ Yan Cook (2015), was the most valuable for us. It was actually the first gig we put together with our full line-up of Honza, Nico, Michal and Adam. After that experience
we stayed with similar scheme of events
for the next 5 years. The cooperation played an essential role in this with the former XYZ project, which introduced us to work with light, and with which we did several upcoming events.
